Jupiter is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by UK-based Nigerian artist Sejiro Avoseh from his ongoing series “Aliens in Space'' and “Rage and Hues.” On view at Untitled Art Miami Beach in booth B21 from December 5th to December 10th, 2023, these works continue the artist’s meditation on his diasporic experience and complex relationship to conceptions of home.
Exemplifying Jupiter’s founding ethos as a space that celebrates emerging international voices, and cultivates a veritable home for diverse artistic practices and varied sociocultural perspectives, Avoseh’s vantage foregrounds his Nigerian heritage, the oppression he experienced in his home country, and the subsequent challenges of adapting to a foreign nation that effectively colonized his birthplace. Thrust into a state of limbo since emigrating to Canterbury, England in 2021, questions of alienation and belonging have thus risen to the foreground in his practice. “Aliens in Space” engages in an ongoing dialog with spaces, time, and family in a visual narration of his quotidian encounters.
About the Artist
Sejiro Avoseh (b. 1990, Lagos, Nigeria) received his MA from UCA Canterbury. His paintings have been exhibited internationally at Afikaris Gallery, Paris; the Green Family Art Foundation, Dallas; Dubai Art Fair, Dubai; FNB Joburg Art Fair, Johannesburg; and KravetsWehby Gallery, New York. He recently completed a residency at The Cabin LA and currently lives and works in Canterbury, England.
