The Historic Hampton House Museum of Art & Culture, Miami's legendary Green Book Hotel, will launch its visual arts program with Gimme Shelter, an exhibition of works by contemporary artists that draw upon the ethos of this iconic site as a safe space and place of congregation during times of segregation. Co-curated by Beth Rudin DeWoody, Zoe Lukov, Maynard Monrow & Laura Dvorkin, Gimme Shelter features works by Derrick Adams, Nick Cave, Charles Gaines, Howardena Pindell, Paul Pfeiffer, Lorna Simpson, Carrie Mae Weems, and many more.

Jupiter Contemporary will present work by Mark Bradford, Travis Fish, Yirui Jia, Rashid Johnson, Milo Matthieu, Dylan Rose Rheingold, Shanee Roe, Alex Stern, Henry Taylor, Paul Verdell and Lotte Wieringa.

The exhibition will open with a preview on December 4, 2023 and will be on view to the public from December 5, 2023 through February 26, 2024. Gimme Shelter seeks to recognize the role of music as an art form that tells our stories, engulfs us and encompasses our lives, especially given the history of iconic musicians that would have crossed this threshold to gather, play music and find rest and restitution within hallowed halls of The Historic Hampton House. Selected works reflect on America’s history and the importance of building and celebrating sites of refuge, renewal, and reflection for Black Americans and people of color.

Jupiter's presentation is accompanied by other satellite exhibitions from Mindy Solomon Gallery and Spinello Projects, including a legacy tribute to Richard Mayhew.
